Questions 10+2

In the first two chapters of  Night, there was one particular quote that made me  question the power of knowledge. When Moishe was explaining the significance of god, it made Eliezer believe that “Every question possessed a power that was lost in the answer” (Wiesel 5).  This quote made me reconsider everything that I ever thought about knowledge and questions. As I was thinking I sought to find the significance and meaning for the author to include this quote in his novel. I realized that this quote is supposed to show the reader that there will always be an answer. Also these beginning chapters where almost identical to the novel Between Shades of Grey while was written in the same style: a story of a Jewish survivor of the Holocaust. Between Shades of Grey began with Nazis soldiers invading a Jewish Ghetto and allowing people 10 minutes to pack up their stuff, which would be only taken from them later on. 

A connection that I had during these chapters was having them transferred to Auschwitz, and I remember learning about the German Concentration camps in History. Especially in Schindlers List, we saw the worst of the cremation centers and the ovens where they would kill mass amount of people. Luckily Eliezer was not sent to Auschwitz to be put in the ovens, he was there to work, and he had survived. A topic that I found important in these chapters was hope. That people preached that if there was no optimism then there would be no purpose to life and no perseverance to survive these tough times. 

Give Me Your Voices: Holocaust Video

The “Give me your children; Voices from the Lodz Ghetto” video made me realize how real and personal these stories are. The awareness that these children had made me feel compassion, hearing how they felt and how little they could do about it makes me feel extremely lucky to have the life I have. If you think about some of the facts that these people are giving its horrifying, having 160,000 people forced into 1.5 miles of space is inhumane. Some children were writing about how little food they receive, bread every eighth day, and the ration once a month, and a small amount of soup. People today complain about being hungry after not eating a full meal for 5 hours, eating this amount of food is equivalent to having a thin slice of bread every 11 hours.  To hear that the 9 year girl would do anything to survive the war truly breaks my heart, for her to know that she’s in this positions just because she is Jewish. When I heard that when people were forced to wear these yellow Stars of David, confused me because if you just harmed when wearing it why wouldn’t people take it off or just not wear it in the beginning?

 I noticed that German's confiscated Jews' valuables and oppressed their labor. This reminds of Schindler's List when Schindler realizes he can use Jews to do his work and not have to pay them.  He then comes to realize he should be saving the Jews with this power.  This makes me wonder if he was the only one, as this was based on a true story, and how many other Nazi businessmen used Jews and then ended up trying to save them?  Overall watching this video has given me the awareness and the reality of these children’s stories, and has made me compassionate. Also the perservance of these children has astounded me, with the minimal amounts of food and what they had to face daily, amazes me that they never gave up. 

I'd Do Anything!

The Song “I’d Do Anything” by Simple plan talks about the love between two people, they were madly in love and then his love left him, but he cant get over her. He claims that he never stops thinking about her and that there is so much he could say to her but he can’t and it’s making him go insane. When they were in a relationship they would do anything with each other like breaking all the rules. This song can connect in several different ways to Romeo and Juliet’s relationship for they both go to the ends of the earth for each other and they can never stop thinking about each other. One major connection is in this song it talks about breaking all the rules as, school regulations but they would ditch school so they could be together which is similar to the rules of Romeo and Juliet of the fued between the families.

Love is one of the biggest influence on people’s decisions. The things people do for love could be as much as talking your life for it.  For example Juliet tells Friar  “ Unless thou tell me how I may prevent it if In thy wisdom thou canst give no help do thou but call my resolution wise and with this knife ill help it presently” (4.1. 51-55). This proves how much she does not want to marry Paris, and that she wants to be with Romeo and if she is not allowed that decision she will kill herself with the knife she pulls out. This displays that if peoples love don’t turn out the way they want it to people would be open to anything and maybe their last resort would be to kill themselves if they don’t get their way. This connects to Juliet that she would rather not die but drink the vial that could go ethier way to kill her or bring her out of this position.

The Horse Trails

It all started the day my mom signed me up for horseback riding lessons, it was third grade and my mom wanted to introduce me to many types of hobbies or activities that she thought I would like. Since I was little I was open to these new experiences so I willing went to the first lesson. I was all geared up with all the safety equipment when I saw the horse I would be riding that right there was the downfall. This horse was a stout little ugly thing named Romeo (weirdly enough) was the colour of dried out mud and hummus mixed together and I was lucky winner who got to clean it, apparently before you ride you have to clean the horse. So I cleaned the horse and then I was taught how to make Romeo stop and run, so I rode him down to this little pen and I made him trot, then once we were trotting Romeo randomly picked up speed and fast. Speeding in circles around the pin, I as a 3^rd grade become very weak to stay on, because I didn’t know how to stop him, so my last option was to fall off. I was traumatized.

After that I didn’t want anything more to do with horses, but my mom thought otherwise she thought I should go again because she had already paid for all my lessons I would be taking. I refused to go to my second lesson. But for the third and the fourth lessons I was forced to go, my mom refused to just sit there and see me grow up with a fear of horses, I went to these classes restraining from touching Romeo and tried a different horse named Holly. Once I had rode Holly I was not afraid anymore for she listening to me and made me feel safe again. Although after those lessons had expired I did not want to go again, today I am not afraid of horses, which would have been a reality if I did not go back and tried a different horse. 

To Love or Hate?

Love and hate can make or break a person. Love can make one blind to the outside world and lead them to make poor decision. For instance, when Romeo killed Tybalt, Juliet says "Shall I speak ill of him that is my husband? But wherefore, villian didst thou kill my cousin? That villain cousin would have killed my husband" (3.2. 106-111). This shows that although Romeo has killed her cousin she still loves him because if Romeo didnt kill Tybalt, Tybalt would have killed her husband which would have been more of a tragety to her. Juliet loves her husband and just because he killed her cousin isnt going to prevent anything, this will influence her decisions by making Juliet go out of her way to find Romeo which could lead her to getting in trouble by the Prince and her own family. I can relate to love impacting decisions when I was in a relationship I snuck out to go see him, and hang out but I was caught and was grounded for three weeks.  These decisions can impact others by making them blind to the outside world, and prevent them from what is really important. 

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”- Martin Luther King.  Hate is the root of all evil which will drastically impact peoples decisions. One example is when Romeo kills Tybalt " they fight. Tybalt falls. The citizens are up and Tybalt is slain. Stand not amazed. The prince will doom thee death" (3.1.137-140). This shows that since the hatred between Romeo and Tybalt was so strong it lead him to kill Tybalt which will only negatively impact the rest of his life. I can connect to this because when I was little I hated everyone for no reason which lead to be lonely with no friends but once I stopped hating I found myself with plentiful amounts of friends. This can impact other by negatively influencing them to hate when really hate is the root of evil and will only lead to negativity.

Love gone wrong! Help!

Hello fellow citizens, I have been in a difficult situation lately. While I was attending the party my family had put together, some boy who I didn’t know came up to me and begged for a kiss. I did not want to kiss him, but then all of sudden in went in for it and we were kissing. For some reason I was really attracted to this stranger, for he was a really good at kissing.

After we had shared a kiss he had to leave, I had still had no idea who this man was so I told nurse to find out who he was. Romeo Montague, of course this would happen to me, I have fallen in love with the only enemy I could have. I now feel like he would complete me, now I don’t anything to do with Paris for I am in love. I don't know what to do can someone please help me?
